Positive thyroid autoantibody levels in patients with high normal or slightly elevated thyrotropin levels predicts future development of more profound hypothyroidism. Patients with post-partum thyroiditis with persistently elevated thyroid antibody levels have an increased likelihood of permanent hypothyroidism. |
